Seminars, Workshops and Special Lectures
The Departments organise seminars/workshops/special lectures, from time to time to motivate and enrich faculty members and students of the department in their respective areas of research and interest.
Special lectures organized by the college during 2008-09 to 2013-14.
- A one-day seminar was organised by the
Department of Political Science on "Women and
Public Space: A Political Enquiry" on March 27,
2014. It included a presentation not only by
eminent professor, Dr. Rajasri Basu, but also by
a student of the department. The most attractive
part of the seminar included a demonstrative
lecture by Dr. Kuntal Mukhopadhyay and his
theatre group, Sanglap.
- On 22 March, 2014, the College organised a
Gender-Sensitisation Programme - "Atrocities on
Women vis-a-vis Role of Counselling" in
collaboration with SAMAGAM, an NGO working in
the area of distressed women. Eminent speakers
from various fields like legal, and law
enforcement departments of the government
interacted with the students and staff and
shared their experiences. Representatives from
CINI ASHA, an NGO, who were present at the
programme highlighted the supportive strategies
provided by them to the survivors of the
atrocities. A few survivors, presently members
of CINI ASHA interacted with the audience.
Thereafter students of various departments
presented skits and theme-shows reflecting abuse
of women in different social spaces namely the
family, workplace as well as other social areas.
- The Thalassaemia Control Unit of the
Institution of Post Graduate
Medical Education & Research (IPGME&R), at the initiative of the Department of Haematology, SSKM Hospital, Government of West Bengal SSKM Hospital situated across Harish Mukherjee Road conducted a Thalassaemia awareness and screening test for the students of the Institution in two phases, on 12/12/2012 and 18/1/2013 in the College premises to sensitise girls to health-related issues, especially Anaemia, and Aids and its relation to child-bearing and child health issues.
