The YPC team added another feather in the cap of GMGC by securing the third position in the YPC divisional level, which was held at Krishnanagar, Nadia on November 19, 2022. Our girls left no stone unturned to give their best at the competition. Maya Dubey, of Third Semester, Political Science Honours received an award for being the best female parliamentarian. Their successful journey from district to divisional level of Youth Parliament Competition has been a learning experience for the other students. Constant support and encouragement from the Head of the Institution and the teachers have helped the students to make a name for themselves with their impeccable performance. Students' Activity Week Celebration
The Students' Welfare Sub Committee celebrated Students' Activity Week from 24 September 2022, Saturday to 28 September 2022, Wednesday, on the theme of Azadi: A Celebration of Independence. Other than the category of Group dance, all the competitions received enthusiastic response. View Gallery
Annual sports are held every year around December-January. An essential feature of College Sports is the badminton tournament in which a good number of students participate. The day begins with and oath-taking ceremony followed by lighting of the lamp and unfurling of the College Flag. Prizes are given away by the Chief Guest at the end of the day. Every new academic session, senior students organize a grand programme to welcome the new entrants and both groups participate with lots of enthusiasm and camaraderie.
Annual College Competition
Annual intra-college competitions are held in the college in the last week before the commencement of the Puja vacation every year. A number of competitions in the fields of dance, music, extempore speech, recitation, essay-writing, painting and hand-work are organized and are presided over by well-known people as judges. Prizes are given away on 18th December, the College Foundation Day.
College Day Celebration and Reunion
The College Foundation Day is celebrated on December 18th with a grand function put up by the students ably who guided by their teachers. the program begins with the invocation song sung by the students and the lighting of the lamp by the President , Governing Body. This is followed by the speeches of the Secretary, Governing Body and the Principal. Then comes a 3hour long programme miscellany that includes varied items such as, solo performances, play acts, dance dramas and such others. A nostalgic reunion of former students and teachers takes place on this occasion. Annual prizes are also given away on this day.
The college undertook to arrange a College exhibition in 2013. Students from all departments participated in this event with great enthusiasm and came up with a plethora of themes and topics on contemporary issues and issues of academic interest and displayed them with ingenuous models, maps, charts, experiments and e-presentations.
Putting up a wall magazine is a special activity where students of different departments draw up charts depicting subjects pertaining to their curriculum or any pertinent contemporary issue, on the walls of their classroom or on the student boards hung at different vantage positions for all to see and read. Faculty members give special guidance to the students in this regard.
Students visit other college and institutions to participate in various competitions that may be held from time to time.
The Institution has three student clubs - a Cultural Forum, a Social Awareness Forum and a Literary Forum, to motivate the students to actively participate in various activities, which extend beyond their curricular requirements. Social Outreach 26th November
26th November, Sarala Ray's birthday is an auspicious day celebrated by the College as the Founder's Day through acts of social service.
In 2015, the staff and students of Gokhale Memorial Girl's College conducted a social outreach programme at Anandabhavan Deaf and Blind Residential School, Jagatpur, Brindabanpur, Howrah. This organisation is registered under Society Registration Act (Regn. No.S/IL 1700) and also under Personal Disability Act (Regn. No. 383 (36)).
The College contributed stationery, sweets, fruits, ration items and items for daily use for the inmates of Aanandabhavan. Students (mainly members of the Social Awareness Club of the College) volunteered to collect items like old clothes and stationery items. The College students had the opportunity to interact with the children school for the entire day, which they did with great zeal and enthusiasm. The children of Anandabhavan presented a short cultural programme which was a showcase of their individual talents. View Gallery
Blood Donation Camp
Mark the death anniversary of Sri Gopal Krishna Gokhale, the College organized a Voluntary Blood Donation Camp in association with the Association of Voluntary Blood Donors, W.B. and R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital Blood Bank, Kolkata in memory of Smt. Sarala Ray and Dr, S. E. Rani Ghosh on 19th February, 2019, in the college premise. Prior to the Blood Donation Camp Sri Debabrata Ray, a member of the said association delivered his motivational talk to create awareness among the students about the advantages of donating blood. Student Social Outreach
A social outreach program is organized by the College every year on the occasion of the Birth Anniversary of Mrs. Sarala Ray on November 26th, 2013, as a tribute to the memory of her exemplary contribution towards women's education and emancipation. The staff and the students make charity visits to schools for the differently-abled, for destitute children and such others.
In 2013, teachers and students visited a school for the deaf and dumb, named "Ananda Bhawan" in Dhulagarh near Kolkata and distributed food, clothing, reading, writing and instruction material and sports goods to the young children. The children displayed their talents through song, dance and solo performances. View PJC Report
In 2014, an orphanage school in Kolkata named, "Refugee" was visited by
the teachers and students. Food and study materials were distributed.
World Suicide Prevention Day
On September 9th 2022, the Counselling Cell of Gokhale Memorial Girls' College, Kolkata organized a One Day Seminar and Inter-college Powerpoint presentation Competition to observe World Suicide Prevention Day which focused on the objective of raising awareness among the youngsters and adults respectively, under the chief patronage of the college principal, Dr. Atashi Karpha. Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas
On 22 November, Tuesday - we at the Gokhale Memorial Girls' College celebrated the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas (15 November) after a weeklong awareness and research efforts by the students. There were four audio visual presentations from four groups narrating the meaning of the term Janjati or Tribe, their origin, history, and cultural contributions to our rich and diverse Indian heritage. This particular Day has been selected by the Government of India to acknowledge the glorious contributions of tribal movements in general and Bhagwan Birsa Munda in particular, to the Indian Struggle for Freedom against British colonial rule. Our students, one group specifically representing the Santhal community, upheld the spirit of the celebration through their colourful, informative and enthusiastic presentations.
Dr. S.E. Rani Ghosh Memorial Service
A memorial service is held in the college every year on the occasion of the death anniversary of the founder-principal Dr. S. E. Rani Ghosh on November 18th and attended by staff and students. The prayer service is conducted by the students with the singing of Vedic hymns, recitation of prayers and Bible reading. A short biography of the founder, highlighting her dedicated service towards the building of the College and turning it into an esteemed institution is also read. Mrs. Sarala Ray's Birthday
The Founder Mrs. Sarala Ray's birth anniversary on November 26th is a special day for the College. Every year it is marked by social outreach programs in which both the staff and the students participate zealously. View Gallery
- Gokhale Memorial Girls' College, founded in 1938, has completed 75 years of dedicated service to the cause of women's education. A year-long Platinum jubilee Celebration Programme (2013-14) was planned and executed with great enthusiasm by the staff and the students of the college.
- The 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda was celebrated.
- 150th anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore was celebrated.
- The birth anniversary of Gopal Krishna Gokhale, educationist and freedom fighter was commemorated on 9th May, 2013 in the inaugural ceremony of the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations.
- The college conducted a renovation and beautification of the grave and tombstone of Dr. S. E. Rani Ghosh in the Park Street cemetery in Kolkata.
- In December 2012, a National Seminar was organized in the Academy of Fine Arts to celebrate the 125th Birth Centenary of eminent mathematician Ramanujan. The year 2012 was declared as the Year of Mathematics by the Government of India.
The year 2014 saw the remarkable observance of "Rashtriya Ekta Divas" or "National Unity Day", through a consolidated 2 km walk by the staff and students of the college to celebrate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Ironman of India who was instrumental in keeping India united. Students attired in ethnic style dresses walked down the road holding colourful posters with captions focusing on the unified diversity of the nation.

under the guidance of Tata Consultancy Services in April-May, 2016. The students are awaiting the
final interview session to be held in the College campus.
A Research and Consultancy organization based in Kolkata organized a selection procedure for "Junior Research Analyst" on 13th & 14th May, 2016.Several final year students were selected for the job, both on full time and part time basis. Read more...
