The association aims towards spreading education for the uplift and emancipation of women of our society. It also aims at assisting the college authority to provide exposure to modern teaching methodologies and encourage positive thinking and foster development in various fields of life. It also provides a platform for interaction among past and present students and their families, former teaching and non-teaching staff and their families in order to provide continuity between an inherited glorious past and a prospective future. Besides, the society also manages and receives endowments, donations and properties from time to time.

The Association is privileged to have Smt Aloka Mitra, Chairperson of Women's' Interlink Foundation, Kolkata, as an Honorary Member. Smt. Mitra's presence would greatly inspire the Association in its work towards empowerment of women.


It has donated Rs.10,000/- to Gokhale Memorial Girls' College during closing the ceremony of the Platinum Jubilee Celebration held on 6th May, 2014 at Rotary Sadan, Kolkata. The association desired that the amount be spent on infrastructural development of the Institution.

A Tribute to Prof. Jasodhara Bagchi

The first time I met Jasodharadi was at a meeting of a feminist organization in the courtyard of the house of the Karlekars and Nalini Das, which was a homely affair. It is not what she had said that I remember now but the song she had sung with full-throated ease: "Aami Chitrangada, aami rajendranandini; nahi devi, nahi samanya naari (I am Chitrangada, heir to the King; neither goddess nor just a woman)". Her rendering gave the song new meaning and resonance for me. Since then, this has happened again and again over the last thirty or so years whenever I heard her sing familiar or unfamiliar songs - like when she sang "aamar mukti aaloy aaloy, ei aakashe" (My freedom lies in this sky, this light) at a street-corner meeting held to protest against the incarceration of Dr. Binayak Sen....

Alumni Association Activities 2017-18

  • The Gokhale Memorial Girls' College Alumni Association donated a sanitary napkin vending machine to Gokhale Memorial Girls' College in June, 2017. View photos
  • The association organised Stem Cell Donation Awareness Programme in collaboration with "Datri", an NGO on 08/09/17 in the College premise. Sample collection from the staff, students and the alumni members of Gokhale Memorial Girls' College was done on 08/09/17 and 08/11/17.
  • Inspired by the Grand success of Mohona 2016, the Alumni Association went another step ahead to organize Mohona 2017 on 9th September, 2017 at the Sarala Ray Memorial Community Hall in the College premises. Sm. Koel Mullick , an Alumnae & Actor, was a Chief Guest in the event. Mohona was a fete cum exhibition of product of organization working for the upliftment of the socially, physically and mentally challenged section of the society. The President of the Association, Prof. (Dr.)Nilanjana Sanyal, Eminent Psychologist, praised the members of the Association to make Mohona a reality. Dr. Atashi Karpha, the College Principal lent her whole hearted support and best wishes for the endeavour of the Association.   • The association organised a health camp on 18/11/17. General Health Check-up, Eye Check-up, Diabetes testing, ECG & Gynaecological check-up was part of the health camp. It was conducted by the doctors of ESI Hospital, Sealdah. The staffs, students, guardians and members of the alumni association, more than 100 in number availed of the facilities. View photos
  • A Special Lecture was organised for the Department of History, Gokhale Memorial Girls' College. The Lecture was delivered by Sri Aniket De, a researcher in the Department of History, Harvard University, on 22/08/17. He spoke on, "Our Songs, Their Gods, Nation and Performance in the Bengal Borderland". View photos
  • "Wonders of the Sky" in collaboration with Sky Watchers Association Kolkata was organised on 15/03/18 to create interest about the Universe, Solar System, Galaxy etc. Among the young generation. View photos
  • Dr. Anindita Chaudhuri, a member of the Governing Council of the Association was the resource person in collaboration with Gokhale Memorial Girls' College in a Gender Sensitization Programme, titled "Understanding Gender and Sexuality in Indian Context". View photos.


More Activities


An interactive session with renowned advertising and film veteran, Mr. Barun Chanda, was organised by the Alumni Association of GMGC, on the 16th of March 2017. As an ex professor associated with the department, Mr. Chanda expressed his desire to renew his ties with the college and engage with the students in the upcoming academic sessions.

The Gokhale Memorial Girls' College Alumni Association organised a Health Camp for the faculty and students of the college on 18th of November, which is the death anniversary of the founding Principal of the college, Dr. S E Rani Ghosh. The objective of the camp was to provide a thorough routine check up to detect minor health conditions or the possibility of any major conditions.

Dr. Lars Isaksson, Professor in Global Business Strategy at Bond University, Australia delivered his lecture which was followed by an interactive session with him.
