Enhanced with a proper teaching methodology and academic planning right from its inception, the department has been able to move ahead leaving behind visible footprints of success and improvement. As the study of Bengali language and literature cannot be limited through the boundaries of the current curriculum, the department has endeavoured to provide the students with an overall knowledge of library criticism, past and present. Frequent special lectures by faculties of other Colleges and eminent speakers are arranged along with interactive sessions so that the students are encouraged towards a sound creative speculation.

A State Level Webinar on 'Feminism - Issues and Concerns through the glasses of Philosophy and Literature' was jointly organised by Department of Bengali and Department of Philosophy of Gokhale Memorial Girls' College, held on 30th of June 2020. The speakers were Dr. Sanat Kumar Naskar and Dr. Aditi Dasgupta from Department of Bengali and Department of Philosophy respectively.
Rabindra Jayanti programme
The students of the Department of Bengali performed and celebrated Online Rabindra Jayanti programme on 8th of May, 2020 via online platform to commemorate the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore during the Pandemic. Department of Bengali attended a workshop on 200 years of Birth Anniversary of Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar on 25th September 2019 organised by Pashimbanga Bangla Academy. 10 people from the department participated in the workshop including Dr. Rakhi Mitra, Shampa Sarkar and 8 students.



Rabindra Jayanti Celebration
Students from the Department of Bengali participated in the Rabindra Jayanti Celebration arranged by the Cultural Club of Gokhale Memorial Girls'College on the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore on 8th June 2019.

Lecture 3
A special lecture on "Gender Equality, Mental health & Gender related issues." conducted by the Department Of Bengali, Gokhale Memorial Girls' College on 15th March 2019. A film 'Duggaboti' was shown on this related issues. The speaker was Dr. Anuradha Kunda. She gave a brief about the topic and formed groups of students to have an interactive discussion on Gender Equality.

'Protitee' is a Departmental Journal entirely planned and published by the students. 'Protitee' means knowledge. The first issue was published in 2011.Though irregularly published, the journal it marks a good initiative indeed on the part of the students.
"The Department of Bengali, Bangla Bhasha o Sahitya Bibhaag, commemorates Ekushe February, Bhasha Shohid Dibosh, the International Language Day, every year with poetry recitation, songs and departmental discussions. Audio-visual teaching-learning and paper presentations with a multi- disciplinary approach ventures new avenues."
