The Department of Education has a proud and long history in the field of Education, more specifically in the field of Women Education in Bengal. This Department is one of the oldest department in West Bengal. This Department was established in the year 1970-71. The Honours course started in the year 1985. For several decades, the department has been notable for the vigorous research activities and excellent teaching-learning environment. Faculties and many students have gained national and international reputations for their scholarly and professional accomplishments.
The primary mission of the Department of Education at Gokhale
Memorial Girls' College is to provide quality education .The
objective of education is learning, and not merely teaching.
Instead, it is a powerful tool as well as a powerful agent of
learning and that which drives long term economic growth.
We are committed to provide the opportunity for acquiring
knowledge and skills that will enable students to develop their
full potential, and become successful members of society. Here
students are encouraged for critical thinking, honesty, and
humanitarianism, which stay with a person through life.
The mission of our department is to develop employable skills
and enhance professional competencies among students. Here,
skills are nurtured as much as possible. It gives students

Utmost care is taken by the teachers for leading their students
towards achieving the future prospect related to Education
as a discipline. It makes arrangement of different workshops,

development programmes and the like for the purpose of
developing life and career skills skills among students.

After the completion of courses offered by Gokhale Memorial
Girls College, the students can settle their career in different

Komal Chaturvedi, student of this department, was a referee
in the Taekwondo Championship at Kolkata, organized by Bengal
Taekwondo Association. She represented Calcutta University in
the district level Taekwondo Competition in the year 2016, which
was organized by Bengal Taekwondo Association. She won the Gold
medal in that competition.
She got Silver medal in the State Taekwondo Championship in
2017.
She has also won the Gold Medal in the District level Taekwondo
Competition in the same year.
