The Department of Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics was founded in the year 1994. Dr. Tripti Sengupta was the first coordinator of the department, followed by Dr. Dheera Palit. A well-equipped modern laboratory was built in her time. Ms. Sangeeta Chakraborty & Dr. Goutam Mahata (Chemistry Department) became the department coordinators in 2007. From 8th July 2008, Ms. Ujjayini Dasgupta took charge as coordinator of CND department in place of Ms. Sangeeta Chakraborty. Remaining classes were conducted by guest lecturers in the department. From 2nd September, 2014; Smt. Pratyasha Agrawal took charge of the department as Course Coordinator. From 2018 onwards, course coordinator-ship was removed from full time contractual faculties of all major departments as per GB guidelines of college. In 2020, Smt. Pratyasha Agrawal became the only State Aided Government Teacher (Category-1) in the department. Currently, remaining classes are conducted by Invited Lecturers in department, while all other classes, administrative and academic work related to department is carried out by her. At present the department has 2 laboratories. Due to pandemic, a big lecture room has been allotted to department for conducting the theory classes.


Vision & Mission

The vision of the department is to empower students with knowledge and skills in field of Nutrition and make them self-dependent
Mission aims at translating the vision into action plans through

  • Regular and thorough studies/ theory & practical classes
  • Field visits, On job Training programmes, Projects
  • Departmental seminar presentations
  • Assessments
  • Participation in various extra-curricular activities inside as well as outside campus
    Guidance regarding higher studies, certificate courses, competitive examinations





Clinical nutrition and dietetics is the study of the relationship between health and nutrition. The course has gained recognition in recent years with growing awareness among the people in the country about their food habits and health.

The students can work in varied fields:

  • Nutritionists & Dietitians in different health organizations (hospital, clinic, health centre, gym), NGOs, corporate sectors, Hotel Industry
  • Teachers in schools; Lecturers/Professors in Colleges/ Universities;
  • Research Analyst/Quality Control/ Marketing Personnel in Food Industries;
  • Research Projects.
  • Entrepreneur.
